When the first articles were published about the Hankook RCM Cup many words were said about a teenager talent from The Netherlands who is trained by Tom Coronel, and who plans to enter the series with his father. The situation, however, became a little complex for Mika Morien, as he is a member of Dutch Talent Program, which caused problems with his Hungarian license. He had to miss the first meetings but in the meanwhile his family found a solution, so Mika can join the field for the remaining two rounds of RCM Cup.

And he will not come alone, his father, the extremely experienced Ronald Morien will also take the wheel of an RCM Swift Racer to help his son’s development as much as possible.

“I have been racing for 18 years now, I was Dutch Touring Car champion four times but it cannot be compared to the experience when you can race with your own son. One of my great dreams will come true in Slovakia. In the previous years I was always beside him, and many times sit next to him in the car, to give as much advice as possible, but those were test, and now he will have to race against others” – said Ronald.

Age regulations in The Netherlands are much stricter than in Hungary, kids are allowed to drive racecars a few years later, therefore the Morien-family started to look for opportunities where Mika can start gaining experience earlier than his compatriots.

“He has driven quite a few different cars up to now, but only in tests. Since it turned out that he will be forced to miss the first rounds of RCM Cup Mika prepared diligently for his debut. He entered a lot of kart races, and tested many kilometers with our Suzuki Swift racecar. Previously he also drove a BMW 325, a 1.6 Formula Renault and a BMW M3 drift car.”

Nevertheless, Ronald and Mika come to RCM Cup with modest expectations, citing gaining experience as the main target for 2014.

“I do not want to put pressure on him with huge expectations. Mika is very good in car handling with both front and rear wheel drive but there is still much to learn. He is a cautious type, but he will get quicker step by step.”

Only two rounds are remaining of the 2014 RCM Cup season, but the Moriens plan to return next season probably with higher expectations.
