Sticking to the basic rules of dramaturgy we left the greatest hit to the very last moment as far as new entrants are concerned: former Suzuki Cup champion Zoltán Bárkovics is also among those joining the Hankook RCM Cup field at the season finale. With him a 19-strong bunch will tussle on the Hungaroring in the three races where we are bound to watch the nail biting fight between Gábor Tim (Apex Racing) and Bálint Hatvani (Zsille Motorsport) for the title.

Bárkó has been a significant figure in the Hungarian one-make series for years and reached the top in 2012 by winning the Suzuki Cup for RCM Motorsport. He also tried more powerful machines; he entered four races of the SEAT León Eurocup in 2009 with Zsille Motorsport scoring points twice.

Being a thoroughbred racer driving is passion for him and he was heartbroken after being forced to miss the first RCM Cup season in 2014.

“I am still a great fan of motorsport although I was unable to enter this season for numerous reasons. Partly because the financial side of the business could not be materialized, but on the other hand I was also a bit tired after spending several years in racing” – Bárkovics explained.

One year, however, is a long time for someone who has been pushing the pedal for so many seasons. Bárkó was watching the successes of the first RCM Cup season from the trackside, and gradually started to feel the itching in his palm.

“Why coming back? I can explain it with very few words: I missed it! A saw the others racing on track, saw the new championship and the new RCM Swift Racer, and suddenly I felt I wanted to be there.”

There is another interesting reason that encouraged Bárkovics to grab his helmet again and enter the season finale of the RCM Cup.

“I am curious whether I will be able to continue where I left it at the end of 2013 after missing almost a year. I have already spoken about it with Bálint Hatvani, who also returned to the cockpit after a long hiatus and he said he needed only three laps to get back the feeling. I hope it will be the same for me.”

As far as his longer term future is concerned Bárkovics stil isl a bit uncertain, although his situation is far better compared to last year and it is still very much on the table that he returns for a full season campaign.

“Ask it after the race weekend” – he concluded with a typical Bárkó grin. I will!
