The 2014 Hungarian autosport season was concluded by the usual Szilveszter Rally on and around the Hungaroring racetrack. It is a custom that beside the best rally drivers of the country a lot of quests from other disciplines enters the race which was the case this year as well. Circuit and cross country racers were on the entry list just like hobby drivers who simply love and can drive a rally car. The Hankook RCM Cup field was represented by the Apex Racing guys, 2014 champion Gábor Tim, 2014 best rookie Gábor Forrai and Zoltán Lévai.

This was the final challenge for Tim before the 24 Hours of Dubai race scheduled for the second weekend of the New Year, which is a prize for winning the 2014 RCM Cup title. The former ETCC racer drove a BMW 325i on the 12 stages with Tamás Tímár beside him.

The 2014 Szilveszter Rally started out well for Tim, who was standing in P3 of the H5 category following the first stage. He dropped back to fifth by the end of the first day, but managed to climb back to the podium before the final stage. However he was unlucky this time, a driveshaft broke in his BMW dropping him back again to fifth.

“Such is rallying! My driveshaft broke on the very last stage, and I was lucky to be able to limp home with the car. First I was very disappointed but I must be proud of our performance as our initial aim was to finish in the top10 of the category. I thank my team for their support and hard work” – Tim said after the race.

Gábor Forrai, the best rookie of the 2014 RCM Cup season started the Szilveszter Rally with co-driver András Simon and in a Nissan Sunny racecar. Although being his very first rally he managed to finish first in the H4 category which is a considerably feat.

Zoltán Lévai started three rounds in the 2014 RCM Cup, and he remained loyal to the Suzuki brand in the Szilveszter Rally, as he entered the race in an S1600 Swift rally car, with Tamás Blaskovits as his co-driver. They fought their way to the podium after finishing third in their category.
