For many it was a simple first round of a new season but for Gábor György it meant real milestone, as his own George Racing Team made its debut on the Hungaroring, where he was a father, a team principal and a driver at the same time. He himself entered the races alongside Dániel Nagy, Veronika Vanyova and his daughter Anett György.

We caught up with him after the season opener to chat about the challenges and adventures of their very first Hankook RCM Cup race.

“I feel very luck as it turned out that I managed to assemble a team where professionalism, joy and readiness have a perfect balance. I consider it to be my very first success as a team leader” – Gábor György said.

“I cannot see the smallest sign of unnecessary tension or anxiety; a tired but very happy team could go home Sunday evening after the races.”

This does not mean that their debut weekend was completely without problems. Although the George Racing Team cars completed the races without any major technical issues there were things to work on.

“We only a had a few test days before the season opener, and those very plagued by numerous technical problems, meaning we had to work a lot on things that might be an easy job for more experienced squads. I think we can be proud of our results.”

“I have to praise our mechanics who gave their all despite our incomplete tool sets and infrastructures.”

“It is funny but the greatest challenge was caused by our tent which had a vivid orange color and we felt like working inside of a gigantic orange. It was annoying for the eyes so we plan to change it for the next round.”

Regarding the performance of George Racing Team drivers the boss also expressed his satisfaction as everyone managed to achieve the previously set targets. Dániel Nagy wanted to score some podiums to keep in touch with arch rival Gábor Tim in the overall. Gábor György was happy with Dani’s second and a third place on the Hungaroring.

“Anett is developing very fast, and I think her ninth and tenth position is a good start. She was competitive and I hope she can steal more points from our rivals in the future.”

“For myself P12 and P11 was the maximum I could achieve, while Veronika told me she started to feel the car in race two where she had some nice battles.”

“It was a strange but good feeling to think about the other during the races. It is a very special experience to race with my own daughter in my own team” – Gábor concluded.

The amount of fans visiting the team was also a huge surprise for the new boss, who cannot wait for the second round of the Hankook RCM Cup in Rijeka on 12-14 June.
