The brand new B3 Racing team surprised the fans, the competition, the cup organizers, and maybe even themselves at the Hankook RCM Cup season opener on the Hungaroring. The squad racing in the SEAT Lean Eurocup entered the number one Hungarian one-make series with two cars but without any previous experience and with two absolute newcomer drivers. However instead of the expected safety play they scored decent results immediately.

It became obvious as early as the qualifying that there is something special in the air as the two ex-gamer drivers of B3 Racing grabbed nice spots on the grid: Bence Boldizs finished seventh while Gergő Báldi scored a sensational third position. Later however he was demoted to the back of the grid due to some technical infringement on his car.

Racing in the field was another challenge for the ex-simulator drivers but they stood the ground. Báldi finished tenth and eighth in race one and two respectively while Boldizs could not finish race one but crossed the line in P9 in the second one.

This is the part of their weekend that was visible for everyone watching RCM Cup action, however a lot more happened behind the curtain as it is not an easy job to start up a new team with rookie drivers and be successful from the very first second.

“The greatest challenge for me was to put together the whole weekend. We had to familiarize ourselves with the organization, the schedules, and the administrative duties. We also had to comply with the high level of the championship and in the meanwhile to give a good car and 100% support to our rookie drivers” – Dániel Kovács, B3 Racing RCM Cup team principal explained.

“It is one of the toughest situations when you have a brand new team with rookie drivers in well bedded series. In longer terms, however, I hope it can be an advantage for us.”

“We had a serious driver selection program two weeks before the first round and we put a lot of effort into it. The team however worked on the purchase of the necessary tools and the assembly of the squad in parallel.”

“The cars provided by the series organizers are identical in performance and it is a great challenge for an engineer to find a setup that makes a difference and allows our drivers to be at the front.”

Although an RCM Swift Racer does not presents itself as a very complex racing vehicle it still isn’t easy to set it up perfectly without any experience.

“The determination of the ideal brake balance was the greatest challenge for us which is always a special aspect of such cars. It is difficult for more experienced teams too so we can make a step forward if we find a good solution.”

The B3 Racing drivers also learned a lot in their first real racing weekend especially as far as driving in the pack is concerned. The team principal was satisfied with the series too.

“It was very positive to see how professional and well organized the Hankook RCM Cup is. As a newcomer team we was given every support we needed before and throughout the weekend” – Kovács concluded.
