The second round of the Hankook RCM Cup in Rijeka, Croatia presented us two incredibly tight and interesting races, as the field battled in enormous heat near the famous harbor city of the Adria Sea. Qualifying was held on Friday this time where Attila Tassi caused a nice surprise, the youngster talent of RCM Motorsport turned out to be the quickest, beating Gábor Tim (Apex Racing) and newcomer Gergő Báldi (B3 Racing) for the pole. It has already happened in the past that Tassi could fight with the leaders of the championship however, he was unable to match the speed of the very best recently.

Unfortunately for him, it was not his lucky weekend. After the strong qualifying, Tassi only finished seventh in race one, and did not see the chequered flag in the second run. Consulting solely the results one could assume that nothing out of order had happened in Rijeka: Gábor Tim and Dániel Nagy (George Racing Team) scored victories. However if you take a closer look at the differences, you will quickly realize that this was one of the most closely fought battle in the series.

Race one was won by Tim but a mere five tenth of a second separated him from Norbert Nagy (RCM), who fought his way up from P4 on the grid. Dutchman Mika Morien finished third, which was the first podium place for the young talent of Zsille Motorsport. Naturally, he won the Rookies’ Trophy too. Ex-gamer Báldi crossed the line in P4, while Dani Nagy scored a lowly fifth place, meaning Tim could increase his lead by 14 points in the overall. The Ladies’ Trophy was won by Anett György (George).

The second race on Saturday was all about revenge. Due to the reverse grid rule Dani Nagy started from P4 while Gabi Tim stood in eight position at the lights, which provided a perfect opportunity for the RCM driver to close the gap. The former champion gave his all to win the race however, his rival showed supreme form once again, he fought his way up to second, and finished only one tenth down behind Nagy. Báldi rounded up the top three with his very first car racing podium (and a victory amongst the rookies), which also meant the first top3 result of his B3 Racing team. Norbert Nagy concluded a strong weekend in P4 while fifth place went to former Gentleman champion Gábor Kismarty-Lechner (Zengő Motorsport). The Ladies’ Trophy was once again won by Anett György.

After two rounds and four races Tim leads the championship by 23 points preceding Dani Nagy. After a fruitful weekend in Rijeka, Norbi Nagy took third in the overall. Mika Morien was also in good form, the leader of the Rookie’s Trophy is in P4 just in front of Attila Tassi. The Ladies’ Trophy is led by Anett György who managed to win all four races so far.

The 2015 Hankook RCM Cup season continues in less than three weeks, the next round is held between 4th and 5th July on the Slovakiaring.
