Niels Langeveld dominated the first day of the Hankook RCM Cup round on the Slovakiaring, the Dutch driver of Zsille Motorsport turned out to be the fastest in qualifying and later won Race One as well in fierce battle with his Hungarian opponents. Langeveld entered two rounds of the championship last season, but he decided to help his protégée, Tijmen Heino from the pit wall this year.

However as slipstreaming is an ultra-important factor in Slovakia, Langeveld returned to the series to a give a hand to his compatriot on the track as well. Tijmen eventually finished ninth in the qualifying while his master took pole position with a mere 58 thousandth of a second advantage to in-form Dániel Nagy (George Racing Team). They were closely followed by the two youngsters of RCM Cup, Attila Tassi (RCM Motorsport) and Mika Morien (Zsille). Title-holder Gábor Tim however suffered without a good slipstream and finished as low as sixth in QP.

The Apex Racing driver bit back later in the afternoon in Race One and showed that he still is one of fastest in the field. He fought his way up to the head of the pack and even led the race for a few laps just to be beaten by Langeveld at the end.

This result is still perfect for the driver who tasted ETCC and the 24 Hours of Dubai race, as his main rival, Nagy crossed the line behind him in P3. It means Tim now has a 27 point advantage on the George Racing Team driver. Moreover, due to the reverse grid rule, Tim will start Sunday’s Race Two in front of Nagy.

Another Nagy, Norbert however lost his third position in the overall after finishing tenth only, while his closest rival, Mika Morien took the chequered flag in P6.

In the Ladies’ Trophy Anett György (George Racing Team) raced without an opponent this time, so ten points were guaranteed, she only had to cross the line. The fight in the rookies’ category on the other hand was as hot in Slovakia as the weather, after Rijeka Gergő Báldi (B3 Racing) managed to beat Morien once again, and he closed the gap to the Dutch talent.

Race Two starts at 14:20 in Slovakia but will be preceded by a ten minutes warm up session at 11:50.
