It was a long winter with a lot of work and testing but the time has come, this is what we were working for in the past year: the Hankook RCM Cup season is off this weekend. The location is the Hungaroring and the traditional Hungarian national championship season opener, the BFR Driver Academy Cup.

The cars were worked on even in the very last moments and discussions were also going on with possible drivers, so the entry list was finalized practically yesterday. The debut season of RCM Cup seems to be quite strong: 14 drivers agreed to participate in each of the six rounds of the championship, meaning RCM Cup will have the most stable field in the Hungarian Championship.

At the last minute there were a few positive changes in the field. Let's start with the good news: Bálint Hatvani (Zsille Motorsport) will compete in RCM Cup all year! He ended up third in the Hungarian SEAT León Cup twice: first in 2007 behind Gábor Weber and Norbert Kiss, then in 2008 behind Kiss and Norbert Michelisz. In addition, he was crowned Europe champion in karting and also competed in the Spanish SEAT Cup. He can definitely be one of the title contenders this year.

Another last-minute entry is Zoltán Lévai (Apex Racing), who ended up 5th in the Suzuki Cup three years ago, and finished 7th in 2012.

Unfortunately we have bad news as well: former Hungarian Suzuki Cup champion Zoltán Bárkovics is missing from the entry list, now it seems he will sit out the entire 2014 season. We also have to wait a little for the debut of our Dutch drivers, as a few problems emerged regarding the racing license of Mika Morien due to some disagreement in the Dutch Federation. Once this is solved, the student of Tom Coronel and his father can hopefully join the field.

The 14-strong RCM Swift Racer armada went through the technical scrutineering on Thursday without any problems. The brand new and spectacular tent of the Cup is up and standing so everything is ready for the opener.

The RCM Cup qualifying will be held on Friday at 14:30, while the first race starts at 11:50 on Saturday and will be 30 minutes + 1 lap long. On Sunday action starts at 12:25 with the 10 minutes warm up, and the second race starts at 15:00. Anyone can attend the weekend of free on the Hungaroring.
